High Mountain

The Hoge Berg (15.3 metres above sea level) is a boulder clay impoundment from the Ice Age. You couldn't build ditches in the sloping area and wood was not available on Texel. As a result, farmers made earthen walls as field boundaries. These so-called garden walls are characteristic of this area. Striking are the schapenboeten, the half-sheds in the meadows. These always face south-west, the direction from which the wind usually blows. This allowed the farmer to work on the lee side.
